Administrative agencies regulate the operation of funeral homes, cemeteries, crematoriums, and the people employed by those businesses. Administrative agencies range from local to state to federal levels of government.
State agencies include the Board of Funeral and Cemetery Service, Occupational Health and Safety Agency, Board of Health, Secretary of State, and Department of Labor.
The Federal Trade Commission is the chief regulatory agency at the federal level.
The federal and state legislatures create administrative agencies by statutes. In turn, administrative agencies create regulations to carry out the duties created for them by the legislature. Indiana collects its administrative regulations in the Indiana Administrative Code. One finds the federal administrative regulations in the Code of Federal Regulations.
