The Indiana State Board of Funeral and Cemetery Service maintains a website here.
The statutory authority for the Board is found at IC 25-15-9.
The Board has eleven members The governor appoints eight of the members. Of those eight, four must be
licensed funeral directors, in good standing, unassociated
with a mortuary science school (other than as a preceptor or
supervisor of a funeral service intern), four must be active
in the cemetery industry in Indiana, either as an owner or a manager
of an operating cemetery property, and the final two represent consumers and must not be associated with the practice of
funeral service or a cemetery operation other than as consumers. Not more than five (5) of the board's appointed members
may be affiliated with the same political party.
The Indiana General Assembly gave the Board the ability to create administrative regulations. Specifically, the Board has the power to create regulations for the following: 1. Establish standards for the sale and payment of funeral or burial services or merchandise in advance of need. 2. Establish the terms of contracts authorized under IC 30-2-13. (Payment of Funeral, Burial Services, or Merchandise in Advance of Need) 3. Implement IC 30-2-13. 4. Implement IC 23-14-48.5. (Consumer Protection Fund for Cemetery Maintenance)
